Blattner Energy

SUMMARY

Blattner Energy, a construction contractor focused on the Energy sector including renewable energy projects, implemented PMWeb. This was a large implementation (2,000 PMWeb licenses) that was implemented in stages, with the first Go Live in October 2019 to 700 users.

OVERVIEW

Blattner was founded in 1907 under the name D.H. Blattner & Co. Railway Contractors. Blattner helped build James J. Hill’s Great Northern Railroad and established a reputation for quality and innovative work. In the generations to follow, Blattner emerged as a leader in multiple areas of construction, including heavy civil, mining, and railroad. Blattner Energy was formed in 2008, building on the company’s already extensive portfolio of energy projects. Today, Blattner Energy focuses on renewable energy construction projects, while D.H. Blattner & Sons concentrates on solar construction services.

SOLUTION

Blattner procured PMWeb for use in all its project delivery activities, with 2,000 user licenses and the Module and Toolkit items listed on the previous page. Implementation began in May 2019 and the first Go Live was in October 2019 to 700 end users. The configuration is continuing with a second release scheduled for September 2020. At that time additional functionality will be released to existing users and the next group of users will be on-boarded.

Blattner had a number of specific requirements for configuring management tasks at the most detailed level – e.g. Travel Request Forms – as well as tools for tasks such as preparation of a “Job Book” to allow Blattner to easily collate documentation to hand over to their clients at the end of projects. Blattner also asked for “Blattner” versions of some PMWeb COTS records, such as Project Centre – allowing specific information of interest to Blattner to be highlighted.
