Fire is one the major risks that is encountered on construction projects that will usually cause harm for both persons and property. Formal fire prevention review and assessment should be done on periodical basis at construction projects. The inspection should cover fire prevention practices in place at the construction site as well as for temporary facilities such as site offices and stores. The inspection should be aligned with the contractor’s health, safety and environment (HSE) policies and practices, the country’s civil defense rules and regulations, and the Insurer’s recommendations during the execution of works on Site.
Using a Project Management Information System (PMIS) like PMWeb, fire prevention checklists can be created to be used during the periodical fire inspection for site offices and stores. The checklist needs to be comprehensive and covers all items that must be inspected and reported on. PMWeb custom form builder will be used to create the checklist which will two sperate lists. The first will be for the site offices while the second will be for the stores. Each list will include the items that will be inspected for which a status needs to be reported as “Yes”, “No” or “NA”. In addition, there will be a field to add comments made by the inspector.
Similar to all other PMWeb records, the attachment tab will be used to capture and upload pictures of any violation sighted by the inspection team. This will help the team in identifying and documenting items that need to be rectified immediately. Since PMWeb is a zero foot print application, the fire prevention inspection form can be accessed from any smart mobile device.
In addition, there will be an option of assigning a workflow to the inspection form if there is a requirement to submit the inspection form for review and approval. PMWeb visual workflow will be used to create this workflow.
