Brightline – All Aboard Florida (AFF)

OVERVIEW

The Brightline All Aboard Florida passenger rail project will connect South and Central Florida utilizing 195 miles of an existing, active rail corridor located along the eastern portion of the state. This route will connect Miami to Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando. Forty new route miles will be created parallel to State Road 528 to connect to the Orlando International Airport. The project will create over 10,000 jobs on average per year through rail line construction. Developed by Florida East Coast Industries, this rail service will give residents and visitors an alternative to congested highways and airport terminals. Construction began in November 2014 and the route is scheduled to open in 2022. As of August 2020, Brightline was the only privately owned and operated intercity passenger railroad in the United States.

CHALLENGE

All Aboard Florida is the first privately funded rail project in the US. With its award-winning design, collaboration requirements with a large number of consultants, and an aggressive timeline, the PMIS system had to be fast, flexible, intelligent, within budget, and easy to use.  ‘

SOLUTION

Several software solutions were reviewed and considered to handle the task of managing the construction of the All Aboard Florida project. Upon seeing its many advanced features and functionality, AAF chose PMWeb to be the Project Controls System to manage the design/construction/and asset management of the project.  The features that differentiated PMWeb from its competitors were the ease of use, financial integration, the modern and advanced web interface, the built-in tools for easy configurations, and the powerful business intelligence reporting system.

Services provided included integration and implementation, gathering business requirements; providing best practice recommendations; configuring PMWeb to conform with the client’s processes; and scoping/testing custom client reports.

RESULTS AND BENEFIT

AAF purchased PMWeb to help with procurement, budget/cost management, forecasting, document management, workflow, collaboration, and integration.

Services included integration and implementation, gathering business requirements; providing best practice recommendations; configuring PMWeb to conform with the client’s processes; and scoping/testing custom client reports.

The overall results and benefits are that all of these project tasks are tracked in a single system that is providing the oversight, collaboration, and transparency that this project requires. The system is being used for:

  • Budgets and Forecasts
  • Planning
  • Scheduling
  • RFIs, Submittals
  • Meeting Minutes
  • Action Items
  • Document Management
  • Visual Workflow
  • Change Management
  • Dashboards and Reports

The overall results and benefits of the PMWeb system is that all of these many tasks are tracked in a single system and are providing the oversight, collaboration, and transparency that this project requires.
