Hill International

SUMMARY

Hill International, Inc is a US public company with some 2,600 personnel and is a leading project management/construction management firm with operations in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. Hill has been using PMWeb for the delivery of capital works projects since 2011, starting with the $1 billion+ Grand Egyptian Museum, and now has over 500 PMWeb users.

OVERVIEW

Hill first used PMWeb on the $1+ billion Grand Egyptian Museum project in Cairo, Egypt, and then continued to roll-out the PMWeb application to many hundreds of its projects in the Middle East, Europe, and the USA.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is an undertaking by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture to house the ancient artifacts of the country. It will be one of the largest archaeological museums in the world, situated on approximately 50 hectares. The museum is part of a new master plan slated for the Giza Pyramids plateau, located 2 kilometers from the museum. The project is scheduled to be opened in stages 9 at a project cost of some $800 million USD and construction cost in the order of $550 million USD.

CHALLENGE

The GEM project includes architects, designers, engineers, investors, and construction professionals from more than 7 nations. The oversight, collaboration, and transparency needed for this project demanded a solution that would be comprehensive in tracking costs, easy to use, multi-language capable, quick to deploy, and provide instant visibility through effective dashboard reporting.

In Q4 of 2011, the Ministry began the implementation and use of PMWeb. Original tracking of the project was begun with Oracle Primavera Contract Manager, but that solution was replaced by PMWeb. Data from the old system was migrated into PMWeb as part of the implementation.

SOLUTION

PMWeb Cost Control features are being used to manage progress invoices and bills of quantity. PMWeb’s Document Controls are tracking Submittals, RFIs, and Daily Reports and are helping executives, project managers, and other team members collaborate and analyze progress reports. Workflow and PMWeb Notifications are being used to aid in online collaboration and approval pr cesses. The overall results and benefits of the PMWeb system are that all of these many tasks are tracked in a single system and are providing the oversight, collaboration, and transparency that this project requires.

PMWeb’s role also included review and advice on the requirements to actually use the various systems – to determine the optimum solution, including appropriate staging strategy to meet immediate needs.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

Since that time, PMWeb licenses have continued to be supplied for Hill projects. Additionally, PMWeb has continued to provide configuration and training services to support Hill’s Technical Core Team (TCT). PMWeb also authored the TCT PMWeb implementation guidelines and worked with project groups in each country to assist with additional configuration to meet local conditions including any specific requirements of Hill’s clients. Hill now has more than 500 users on the system.

“They remain the most professional and competent group I have ever worked with. I would highly recommend their team and services to anyone”
